A big part of the direction of Creating Space Yoga Studio is the notion of doing our part or giving back to our local community and our extended world community. We are excited to be preparing for another event.
Recently, one our amazing yoga teachers Cheryl Smith spent some time in Kenya with the Me To We organization building schools. We would like to try to build on her experience and do our part from Oakville and through the yoga.
"Yoga for Better Bones" will be a new class introduced to the studio in this upcoming spring term. As a way of introducing this exciting class, we are hosting two fundraising classes for the Me to We Organization.
Join us on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at 10:45am and Monday, April 11, 2011 at 1:30pm. Please contact the studio to register.
There will be no fees for these class but we will be accepting donations on behalf of Me to We, a Canadian organization founded by Craig and Marc Kielburger (Free the Children). Me To We works with children in China, Ecuador, Haiti, India and Kenya. 100% of the donations we collect will go towards buying supplies for Health Kits (washcloths, toothbrushes, soap, etc.) and School Kits (backpacks, notebooks, pencils, crayons, etc.) for the children in Kenya. Me to We is sending a large shipment to Kenya on May 1st, and these kits will be on that shipment!
Yoga and Bone Health
Our bones are living tissue and our bodies are constantly renewing them, replacing old bone with new bone. In our 30's, that bone renewal slows and we start to lose bone mass.
Yoga offers a wonderful way to maintain the strength in our bones, reduce stress (which plays a role in bone health) and improves balance and coordination to reduce the risk of falls. This "Yoga for Better Bones" class will be an active one, using small weights. We'll be up on our feet and working up a sweat. We'll adapt yoga poses to maintain strong bones, and also work on balance, proper alignment and healthy rest.
